Alfa Romeo V8, as used in the Montreal. Dat noise after the jump.

Dang man! NSFW after the jump! Geez...

That sounds almost like an American V8... I was expecting a honey-dipped cello of Italian passion sort of sound, but instead it was a bold, in your face hammer of a sound.

It is only a 2.6L, but it sounds like 1893980432L!

A friend of mine has an orange Montreal. It's a truly amazing sound. Oddly enough, he still has the original tires.

Wtf? Running a fram? I wouldn't trust that shit.
Also dat engine note. I am guessing this doesn't use a flat plane crank.

Very very jealous. The Montreal is one of my all-time favourite cars. If I was handed £20,000 to buy a car, that's the one I would get.

Yeah the Montreal had a cross-plane crank, but the 33 Stradale had a flat-plane one from the racing engines (despite the engine actually being the same unit).

Like the OP said in another comment, Cross-plane crank. That makes it more like a US V8 than most italian Flat-plane V8s.
It really reminds me of a Ford 289, with its (relatively) small size, low-stroke, high-revving cross-plane nature.

That explains it.
That was my thought too. I immediately thought of my uncles 68 Mustang.

First off, I f***ing love the Montreal. But this is the camera car at the minute mark. So fricken weird I love it also, but for very different reasons.

The drivetrain on those is excellent. Final evolution of the RWD transaxle V6.
